Australian rock legend Graham ‘Buzz' Bidstrup has lived several musical lives … drummer, songwriter, producer, manager, and now author. In his new memoir No Secrets, Buzz revisits the wild, sweaty, beer-fuelled heyday of Australian pub rock and the extraordinary journey that took him from the back of the stage with The Angels to the beating heart of the nation's music industry.
Speaking with Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips, Buzz reflected on how the book began as a simple response to a nephew's question, “What do you really do?” before evolving into a full-blown memoir that took three years to complete. Drawing from old diaries and decades of storytelling, he shaped an account that captures both the chaos and creativity of a life spent behind the drum kit and studio console.
In No Secrets, Buzz recounts his journey from his first drum kit to becoming a powerhouse drummer, session musician, songwriter, producer and manager. An original member of The Angels/Angel City, GANGgajang and The Party Boys, he's also made music with a who's who of rock royalty including Jimmy Barnes, Mondo Rock, Australian Crawl, Richard Clapton, Don Walker's Catfish, Swanee, The Stetsons and even Tiny Tim. Buzz managed and produced albums for young artists like Nathan Cavaleri and Diana Anaid, The Numbers and The Riptides, and spent a life-changing thirteen years managing and producing the legendary Indigenous entertainer Jimmy Little AO
