We actually have a dominant eye, a dominant ear, a dominant foot, and a dominant hand—and your dominant eye can make or break your golf alignment. For putting and ball striking, you want your dominant eye telling you where the ball is. If the non-dominant eye takes over, you may scuff, hit behind, or catch it thin.
Simple dominance tests:
• Make a small opening with your hands at arm’s length in a mirror and bring it to your face—the eye it lands over is dominant
• Hold your thumb over a light switch; close one eye at a time—the eye that keeps them aligned is dominant
On-course takeaway: keep your dominant eye behind the ball. If you’re left-eye dominant, a tiny head-position tweak can prevent your nose from blocking that eye, helping you make crisper contact.
Key points:
• Everyone has a dominant eye that guides alignment
• Easy at-home tests confirm which eye is dominant
• Small head adjustments keep the dominant eye on the ball for cleaner strikes
