Near Ocotillo, the southern Anza Borrego Desert has a number of interesting spots to explore, either on foot, or by off-roading. Located near the Dos Cabezas region, the ruins of the Dolomite Mine sit at the base of Mine Peak in the Coyote Mountains. For those with 4WD capabilities, this is a drive up adventure and an interesting area to explore; and for those that wish to hike, this is a stunning area in the Carrizo Badlands. The centerpiece of this area is the 1930's ruined mine, which looks more like a castle, and the surrounding soft dolomite sand around it.
