Dolly Parton had one name she would always love. While the celebrated country star—who died Aug. 25 after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 80—and her late husband Carl Dean never had kids together during their nearly six decades of marriage, the two were certainly considering the possibly early on and even had a name picked out if they’d welcomed a daughter. “You always wonder. My husband and I, when we first got married, we thought about if we had kids, what would they look like? Would they be tall—because he’s tall? Or would they be little squats like me?” Parton shared with The Guardian in 2014. “If we’d had a girl, she was gonna be called Carla.” The country music legend also expressed that she felt she was not meant to have children so that she could focus on her career and her philanthropic work. Additionally, the 9 to 5 actress often spoke about doting on other members of her family such as her nieces and nephews—even going as far as buying them cars and paying for their education.
