smiling friends is an organization meant to make people smile. it cames from an adult swim show of the same name. during the third season of the show, a youtube channel popped up called “critter clips 2002,” reuploading clips from the show… with a twist. a new character in a 3d rendered art style named dolly dimpley was inserted into various scenes. she is most infamous for punctuating every joke made by pim and charlie with some sort of meme or reference humor. one instance even included an analog horror styled recording being slotted inside of an episode. being added in after the show was made, there is never a reaction from any character that she exists, leaving her feeling ignored… at least, that is what most audiences thought before they noticed some eye movements that weren’t in the show originally. this tension burst when dolly eventually gets so fed up with being ignored or talked over, she punches one of the characters in the back of the head, going on a very emotional vent as pim, visibly uncomfortable, keeps looking away from her. when she runs off crying, the scene picks up as usual. some works have speculated that the two are paid off or forced to pretend she doesn’t exist by some universal constant. despite this, many online have decided that dolly dimpley is one of the crew and hope she will one day be honestly acknowledged.
deltarune is the spiritual successor to undertale, both games made by toby fox. in both games, there is a character named asriel dreemurr who holds a lot of significance to the plot. he got his name presumably from his father, asgore dreemurr, who combined part of his own name with his wife’s, toriel dreemurr, since he was always bad at naming things. this naming convention inspired fans to speculate on the other parts of the names being used, creating the name “togore.” togore eventually received a lot of attention during the release of deltarune’s third and fourth chapter, particularly thanks to a sprite for the character originating in a roblox roleplay server. he is famous for having a very uncomfortable stare, the catchphrase “togore-tastic,” and being pared with other fan created characters such as chester holiday. this particular battle draws heavy inspiration from miggsboson’s version of the character as seen in their deltarune webcomic, “togore time.” in it, togore is the middle child of the dreemurr family. he is socially a bit awkward, often confiding december holiday about his weird interests in bugs or the paranormal at a young age and having some trouble with manners. when december holiday strangely vanished and his parents split, he grew up often overlooked and isolated. togore gained popularity due to their presence fitting in with themes of toby fox’s previous works, especially themes of forgotten or feeling like one doesn’t belong. the webcomic even shows togore meeting the mysterious “friend” of deltarune, who shows him a world where he doesn’t exist.
