A 2-year-old Chihuahua named Petey is recovering after a local animal rescue group said he was thrown from a moving vehicle in Harrisburg and then hit by another car.
Petey, who weighs 13 pounds, was found around South 13th and Swatara streets in the Allison Hill neighborhood, according to Castaway Critters. He was discovered by a good Samaritan walking by before midnight on Aug. 17.
"Hitting the ground from a moving vehicle, when you're throwing a dog out, he couldn't have had time to put his feet down," said Jessica Walton, operations manager of Castaway Critters. "Then being hit by another car behind him, I can't even imagine how traumatic that was for him."
