Sewstine | Doctor sews cottagecore / Ghiblicore dress so she can live like Sophie from Howl's Moving Castle @Sewstine | Uploaded December 2020 | Updated October 2024, 6 minutes ago.
I talk about how to make a house dress designed for comfort, practicality, and an animated cartoon feel.
I do work full time at a hospital, so when I'm home, I try to maximize comfort, ease, and fun. Luckily, work provides me with scrubs at work, and I work a ton, so I don't have to have all that many outfits for home, so the outfits I do have can be tailored for my aesthetic and needs. Moreover, I've been trying to resist fast fashion whenever possible, so all outfits are designed for years of hard use, repair and functionality.
I realized (thanks to my friend Aimee from @aimeekittycosplay - instagram.com/aimeekittycosplay ) that I never actually defined cottagecore though I did loosely define my take on it - Ghiblicore. I looked into scripting a quick definition but I had trouble explaining it as well as all the complex emotions and problems I have WITH it, namely, how it's been taken over by white supremacists as a way of idealizing a very white washed past, or how it does have its roots in some significant privilege because most people cannot afford a life like that. So after trying, I gave up, and instead will link you to an online definition: aesthetics.fandom.com/wiki/Cottagecore
These dresses are heavily inspired by those of Little Women Atelier, as well as the animated movies I mentioned in the title. I was also VERY inspired by the Megan Follow's Anne of Green Gables. (Easily the best of the Miss Shirleys)
