In the Victorian era, doctors warned women that cycling would distort their faces and put off potential romantic partners! Despite this, the bicycle played a key part in female emancipation, changing fashions, allowing for exercise and granting women the ability to travel without male supervision. Although historical obstacles to equality, such as bicycle face, may now be laughable, there is still a big gap between the number of male and female cyclists in the UK. We're working to change that with the Women's Festival of Cycling! Join the festivities this summer.
