Today, I have a bit of a conspiracy theory for you, related to all the talk that everyone's been having lately about #OscarsSoWhite, Matt Damon, and the role of diversity in movies.

Of course, a producer or director of any color can cast someone in any role (Halle Berry was actually a drug addict in Jungle Fever), but this tendency exists and still shows the need for multiple perspectives and subconscious drives in our decision-makers. After all, MTV didn't want to put Michael Jackson on the air, and I think their wallets, and music fans everywhere, realized that he should be there.

Background music is "Double-O" from Kevin Macleod's Incompetech archive. Clips from Acting101 (I am a black male but that's not me behind the desk), 48 Hours, Glory, New Jack City, Coming to America, The Wire, and others as noted.
