Jazz at Lincoln Center is proud to introduce the new monthly series “Dizzy’s Discovery Artist” which will feature performances by young, emerging jazz talent outside of NYC. A new artist will be featured each Tuesday at 11AM EDT. First up is Spanish jazz and classical pianist Daahoud Salim alongside trumpeter Bruno Calvo.
Born and raised in Seville, Spain, Salim has never performed in the United States. A graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, he started his jazz studies with his father, Abdu Salim, a saxophone player and composer from Texas. Daahoud has received various prizes and played at some of the most prestigious venues in Europe, including Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw, Tivoli Vredenburg, and Bimhuis. This set of Daahoud's original music, recorded in Spain, also features Dizzy's Discovery Artist trumpeter Bruno Calvo. Calvo displays influences from all music genres, and if you listen closely, you hear echoes of flamenco, a reflection of his upbringing in Cádiz, Spain. In 2017, Calvo won second prize at the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition. His debut album Outlines (2018) was released on the label Fresh Sound.
