Hey guys! I have a fun shell pattern for you today that uses double half hitch and square knots. The square knots help to create the raised section of the shell.

Before we get started I quickly want to remind you that I wrote a book and it is available for pre-order now! My book, entitled, Mixed Fiber Macrame, takes a new spin on macrame teaching you how to work with various fibers including ribbon, raffia, wool roving, bamboo and more! My book contains 24 projects with step by step photos and instructions ranging from macrame wall baskets, macraweaves, pillows, a rug, a chandelier, and more!

This book will be available worldwide on November 24th but pre-order is available now through a number of retailers - I’ve added all the links in the description for you!

All pre-orders will receive a bonus project!! Please email me your proof of purchase at lotsofknotsca@gmail.com and I will send the pdf of the bonus project directly to you.

Thanks again so much for your support! Okay let’s get started on today’s tutorial.

Set up - cut 4 pieces of 3mm natural string, each piece is 2 meters in length. Fold each piece in half and attach to your dowel using Lark’s Head knots.

Tie two square knots at the top of your work - tie them both so that they are leaning inwards.

Use the inside right cord as your filler cord and tie 4 diagonal double half hitch knots (DHHKs) working down and to the left.

Use the third cord from the right as your filler cord and tie 4 more diagonal DHHKs working down and to the left.

Use the second cord from the right as your filler cord and tie 4 more diagonal DHHKs working down and to the left.

Use the last cord on the right as your filler cord and tie 4 more diagonal DHHKs working down and to the left.

Tie two more square knots across your work. This time your square knots should lean outwards instead of inwards.

Repeat this pattern to create another shell. I’ll show you one more time - this time I’ll work in the opposite direction.

Thanks for watching!
