Materials:
- 3mm Premium String (Colour: Vintage Green)

Hey guys! Today I’m sharing with you my first attempt at this leaf pattern. This design was supposed to resemble 4 leaves - you can see how the string comes together in the centre to create a line which was supposed resemble the line down the centre of a leaf. I found this pattern worked better to create a leaf look when I doubled up the on the double half hitch knots (as you can see here on the left and right) but it didn’t come out as clear as I thought. I’m going to keep working on this one to create more of a leaf design but I do still really like the criss crossed look of this pattern and so I wanted to share with you how I created it. If you’re enjoying my tutorials a quick like, comment and subscribe really does help me out. Thanks so much. Let’s get started.

Cut 12 pieces of 3mm string in the colour vintage green, each piece is 6 ft in length. Fold each in half and attach to your dowel using Lark’s Head knots. We will start by tying the first diamond in the middle of our work. Use the centre left cord as your filler cord and tie 6 double half hitch knots (dhhks) working down and to the right. Use the current centre left cord as your filler cord and tie 5 dhhks working down and to the left.

To create the design in the centre, bring the first cord on the left in front of 1 cord and behind 4 on the right and then use a dhhk to tie it to the filler cord on the right. Bring the second cord in front of 2 cords and behind 3 on the right and then tie a dhhk. Bring the third cord in front of 3 cords and behind 2 and tie a dhhk Bring the fourth cord in front of 4 cords and behind 1 and tie a dhhk. Bring the fifth cord in front of all 5 cords and tie a dhhk.

Use the cord on the left as your filler cord and tie 6 dhhks working to the right (the 6th knot should be tied to the filler cord from the right).

We will repeat the same process to tie the second leaf except this time we will tie 2 layers of dhhks around the centre of the leaf. Follow along as I show you how to do this.

We will now tie our second layer of dhhks, tying 5 dhhks on the right and 4 dhhks on the left.

To create the centre, bring the first cord on the left in front of 1 cord and behind 3 and tie a dhhk. Bring the second cord in front of 2 cords and behind 2 and tie a dhhk. Bring the third cord in front of 3 cords and behind 1 cord and tie a dhhk. I made a slight error here - bring the fourth cord in front of all 4 cords (not just 3) and tie a dhhk.

Use the cord second from the left as your filler cord and tie 5 dhhks. Finish off by tying the outer layer of dhhks.

Tie one more leaf on the right using the same process as we did for the leaf on the leaf and then tie a final leaf at the bottom using the same process we did for the top leaf.

Thanks so much for watching!
