For the longest time I have stewed over ways to reuse or repurpose hamburger grease. There's not a lot out there about what you can do with the stuff, so I decided to see if I could repurpose it into a candle. This video goes through the process and shows you how to make your own hamburger grease candle using things from around your house. The video also shows you a neat way to recycle old t-shirts into candle wicks. Surprisingly, this candle doesn't have a strong hamburger smell to it when burned, although I wouldn't take it camping in bear country with me. These things burn for a very long time.
I could see people utilizing these in having a cheap supply of long-lasting candles on hand for extended power outages. I keep a tin of this stuff around to apply to my axes, hatchets and other cutting tools to deter corrosion and to keep edges sharp between uses.
If you are into candle-making, I would love to hear if mixing scents into this would enhance the smell. Let me know :)
