According to Jewish law, a woman cannot obtain a divorce whithout her husband's consent.
Should he deny his consent, she remains chained to him in marriage. Ruling is accepted by Jewish communities all around the world. In Israel, all divorces must take place in accordance with Jewish law, before a rabbinic court of three male judges.
Attorney Batya Kahana-Dror is an Orthodox feminist. She is one of very few women licensed to argue before these rabbinic courts. She uses every means available by law to help the women she represents obtain a divorce and be set free.
