The original Journey into Imagination ride, which debuted at EPCOT in Walt Disney World in 1983, was a whimsical and beloved dark ride that encouraged creativity and exploration. Sponsored by Kodak, it was located in the Imagination Pavilion and quickly became a fan favourite due to its imaginative characters, playful storyline, and innovative design.
The ride followed the adventures of Dreamfinder, a friendly inventor, and Figment, his mischievous dragon companion. Dreamfinder and Figment would take guests on a journey through the world of imagination, exploring various realms of creativity, including art, literature, science, and performing arts. Dreamfinder would "collect" ideas, and Figment would add playful commentary, creating a sense of wonder and discovery.
The ride's music was a major highlight, featuring the catchy and uplifting song "One Little Spark," composed by the Sherman Brothers, which became iconic for EPCOT.
In 1998, the ride closed for a major refurbishment. It was replaced by Journey into Your Imagination, which removed both Dreamfinder and Figment, resulting in a wave of disappointment from fans. Due to the negative response, the ride was reworked again in 2002 as Journey into Imagination with Figment, bringing Figment back as the central character, though Dreamfinder did not return.
The original ride remains a nostalgic and cherished memory for many EPCOT fans, remembered for its charm, creativity, and inspiration.

Welcome to my latest video, This restored VHS home movie takes you on a nostalgic journey through Disney Studios (now Disneys Hollywood Studios) during our family trip in 2001. Relive the magic as we explore the park, capture unforgettable moments, and experience attractions that are now extinct.
In this video, we start by traveling to Disney Studios and taking the tram to the entrance gate. Upon arriving, we enter the park and embark on our first adventure with the iconic Great Movie Ride, an attraction that has since closed but remains a cherished memory for many Disney fans.
Throughout our day, we encounter numerous Disney characters for meet and greets, including the beloved Toy Story Green Soldiers. We also capture the vibrant Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade, which was a highlight of our visit, and enjoy the entertaining performances by the Citizens of Hollywood street performers.
As we explore the park, we revisit the Toy Story Green Soldiers and take part in the interactive experience of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire – Play It! We also venture into the thrilling world of Star Tours and wander through the now-extinct Streets of America area.
Our adventure continues with the Studio Backlot Tour, featuring the dramatic Catastrophe Canyon, and a visit to the AFI Showcase, where we marvel at movie props and costumes from beloved films. We also make a second visit to the Great Movie Ride, soaking in its cinematic magic one last time.
As the day winds down, we capture views around the park, including a pre-Fantasmic moment, and finally, we bid farewell to Disney Studios and leave the park with hearts full of memories.
