The Cynical Historian | Disgraced Historians : Irving, Ambrose, Foote, Bellesiles, Churchill, Goodwin, & Cinel @CynicalHistorian | Uploaded 4 weeks ago | Updated 7 minutes ago
Scandals in the history profession are now news-media spectacles, but the public used to ignore them completely. As the culture war heated up, so too did attention on these things. Since I've previously labeled certain historians as disgraced or specific acts as disgraceful on this channel, I wanted to dig into what makes them so. It's an interesting question. First you have to define what a historian even is and then how one can disgrace that label. In the process of researching that, I found some fascinating truths about how historians navigate and negotiate our professional ethics, which affect the way history is made.
