This jewel of the Great Basin National Park in White Pine County near the Utah border was discovered in the 1880s by rancher and miner Absalom Lehman, and declared a national monument by President Warren Harding in 1922. The cave lost national monument status when incorporated into the park by Congress in 1986 but continues to impress visitors with its Gothic Palace, Music Room, Lodge Room, Inscription Room and Grand Palace sections.
