Discover Energy Systems has a new outdoor battery cabinet and heated lithium batteries. Together, this is a fantastic solution to home solar energy storage. The batteries are the AES Rackmount, lithium Iron Phosphate (LIFePO4) with self-heating function to work in below freezing applications. The cabinet is UL listed and outdoor rated.
This video is testing and reviewing the batteries and slimline cabinet. Cold weather is usually the limiting factor for LiFePO4 batteries. Normally you would need a heated and insulated building for the batteries to be housed. With this new cabinet and battery combination, you can mount them outside without risk of freezing.
The batteries are 51.2V (48V) lithium, 100Ah each, or 5.12kWh capacity. The slimline enclosure houses up to 6 batteries inside for just over 30kWh total capacity.
