Five Interludes for piano, Op. 17, written in 1923.

These five interludes for piano are well-composed miniatures, that show a big influence of Brahms, and a bit of Mendelssohn too. Schäfer is no Brahms epigone though, one can clearly see he managed to bring forth his own voice in the compositions. These pieces are among the best Dutch piano compositions from the late-romantic period.
The pieces are dedicated: "Aan Baron Adolph Wodniansky".
