Dirge were a Russian death metal band and were active from 1993 to 1997. The 7 tracks you hear on this demo was the only material they ever recorded.
Doomy death metal through and through, that's what you should expect from this. No frills, just riffs. Straight up. Think a bit of Autopsy, a bit of Cianide, a bit of and then make the audio super lo-fi.

![Carnified - Putrid Development [Full Demo - 1994]
Carnified are a Brazilian death metal band, formed in 1994 and still going strong to this day. In their first run, from 1994 to 2005, the band released 2 demos (this being the first one), 1 EP and a debut LP in 2001, after which the band took an hiatus, coming back in 2021 and relasing a 2nd LP in 2022.
A short and sweet demo, classic old style death metal. Honestly, theres not much to say about this one... Its death metal! Its good!

![Ambivalency - Material for Improved Death [Full Demo - 1994]
Ambivalency were a Czech deathgrind band. Formed in 93, this group released 2 demos before splitting up, Material for Improved Death being their debut.
If youre down for some unserious deathgrind with pretty unhinged vocals, this is for you. With the exception of the samples and some slower bits here and there, this demo is just silly moments followed by drum annihilating beats and down tuned guitars. Its surprisingly catchy!

![Cerecloth - Godless Passages [Full Demo - 1992]
Cerecloth were British death metal band. Formed in 92, they band only released this demo and a single in 1993, splitting-up in an unknown year. It was formed by Darren OHara, guitarrist for Malediction, another band whose demos Ive uploaded a while back.
Despite the diminute musical output, Cerecloth delivers. They are mainly pure death metal, but there are some unmistakably death/doom influences to their sound, like the atmosphere and some songwriting. The band also often uses some techniques that early Immolation loved to use, like those high-pitched guitar schreeches, and some ethereal organs taken from the already mentioned death/doom side. Without saying much more about this short but super sweet demo, the closer really rounds up the other 2 songs and finishes it off with a fitting end.
Also a cerecloth was a waxed cloth used for wrapping a corpse.

![Corrosive Instict - Terminal Anguish [Full EP - 1999]
Corrosive Instict (yes, Instict, thats not mymisspell, it the bands) were a Greek death metal band. They formed in 1997 and released a demo in the same year and this EP in 1999.
I kinda want to say this is your average late 90s death metal but then the band diverges into melodeath riffs and I dont know what to think... maybe that really is the generic kind of death metal from the late 90s, who knows!
Tracklist:
00:00 - Horizon (Intro)

07:10 - Incorrect Perception
11:31 - Era of the Holocaust

![Gravevoid - Sacrificial Menstrual Blood [Single]
Gravevoid are the latest goremongers in the scene, and with Sacrificial Menstrual Blood they present the beefy and huge sounding death metal style they will unleash November 6th on their debut EP Fetid Corpse!
Dont sleep on these guys, they sound super promising and for a first effort this is some next level shit. Its not every day you find such bestial, murky and meaty production for a recently-formed band.

![Psychophony - Paradise of Souls [Full Demo - 1995]
Psychophony were a Spanish death metal band. They were active from 1993 to 2000 and recorded only two demos, Paradise of Souls being their first one.
Despite the long, calm (and quite boring) intro, these dudes pack a punch. Just low growls and fast drums with the occasional death/doom-y bit (you know I like it slow and heavy!). Its just 14mins long, bit sized death metal that can fit anywhere in your schedule.

![Seventh Gate - A Divination of Masquerade [Full Demo - 1990]
Seventh Gate were an American thrash/death metal band. They only released 2 demos, A Divination of Masquerade being their last one.
If you listened to the Execution demo I posted last week, you will notice a huge improvement in the bands songwriting. Their death metal vein is also much more noticeable. Overall its a much more mature release and now we can pinpoint some clear influences - notably Pestilence, Possessed and a Death-like tapping technique - and even then, Seventh Gate still pull off some great, unexpected melodic, powerful and clean singing moments that are taken directly from their thrash influences (and for that, Somnulence might be my favourite track from this demo, its just so unique).
The only downside to this demo is that they dont have such a proeminent, jangly bass like they had in their debut - but you can rest assured that they compensate for that.
Tracklist:
00:00 - Step into My Dreams
03:31 - One Feeling
07:10 - Nocturnal Disease
12:31 - Consequence
17:34 - Somnulence
23:38 - Holy Possession

![Skullcrusher - Storming Onslaught [Full Demo - 1999/2000]
Skullcrusher were a Finnish thrash metal band, formed in 1997. They were rather short lived, having released 4 demos, last one in 2007, which was actually recorded in 1998 and picked up by a label, making Storming Onslaught their actual last one. In the title it reads 1999/2000 because I wasnt able to pinpoint an actual release date, different sources give me different years.
They remind me a lot of Slaughter Lord, thats for sure. Those Canadians left their mark in the thrash scene and Skullcrusher picked up where they left with some minor tweaks. Overall, its the same bit with a little less black influence, as well as a touch of death metal, and higher pitched vocals every now and then

![Bastardized - With Love, With Hate, With Grief, With Pain [Full EP - 1995]
Bastardized are a death/doom metal band from Singapore, and With Love,... was their debut EP. For some reason theyre categorized on Metal Archives as 𝘔𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘤 Doom/Death, but I really disagree with that! Unless its related to their 2015 debut album, idk, I didnt listen to it. Anyway, in this EP youll find very straight forward death metal riffs accompanied by great great death/doom breaks that either give the songs a somber feeling or turn them even more aggressive.
Really cool spikey logo too!

![Mazetorment - Rituals Suffocation [Full Demo - 1992]
Mazetorment were a Malaysian death metal band (maybe the rawness gives them some black metal too, idk). Formed in 1990, this demo is all thats known from them.
If you can ignore that 99% of the demo will be in your right ear (or if you can turn on mono on your speakers), this is pretty good! Super amateurish death metal where you just have a bunch of dudes throwing rocks at their instruments for 15 minutes. Sometimes they remember theyre able to play the instruments and pull out some tremolos and syncopated beats.
As you might guess from the band name, there is in fact some Morbid Angel influence...

![Dark Prophecy - Promo Tape 92 [Full Demo - 1992]
Dark Prophecy were a Portuguese black/death metal band. Formed in 1992, this was their only output, a rehearsal recording thats 50% music 50% samples.
For the majority of the demos, this is definitely some of the most mid-paced black/death metal I ever heard. These guys were super rookies, theres virtually no complexity at all in this whole demo - and you know we like sloppy and ammateurish metal in here. Having intros that are 3 minutes long is insane, sure, especially when one is a sample from an obscure Spanish horror movie that I couldnt identify and the other is from Childs Play 2 , but that just screams DIY from my perspective. Sometimes it feels like the band also tries to emulate some Bathory but doesnt really achieve it. That and the slow tempos leaves them in a weird zone thats neither black nor death metal, a zone thats almost impossible to enter today.
