Dim sum in Taiwan: It’s the battle of the vegetarian dim sum restaurants in Taipei between Hi-Lai Vegetarian and Yang Shin Vegetarian. Hi-Lai is located in the Sogo Zhongxiao location and we don’t have reservations on a weekday, so we made sure to get there very early to hopefully snag a table. There’s the first difference between the two vegetarian dim sum restaurants - don’t think you can get a table at Yang Shin by walking in because that place is booked up! Hi-Lai’s location is great because it’s in a huge department store where you can get some shopping done and they also sell take-out food outside the restaurant; so convenient! They didn’t seem to have English-speaking staff and the ordering situation was a bit dicey (watch the episode to see what we mean), but the food was excellent! There was even a promo when we visited where we got a free order of radish cake. We really wanted to try a variety of dishes so we got the Chinese pancake, pan fried vegetable and truffle dumpling, sticky rice, stewed spicy tofu soup with cabbage and mushrooms, deep fried vegetable spring roll and radish pastry. Was the food as good as Yang Shin? Watch to see for yourself!
