Inspired by the artwork of Simon Stålenhag, The Electric State called for a VFX pipeline that could bring an entire cast of robots to life with realism, texture fidelity, and creativity. In this case study, Asset Supervisor Nick Cosmi walks through how Digital Domain’s texture team developed and optimized a material-driven workflow in Foundry’s Mari to meet the demands of this ambitious Netflix feature.
From building a robust material library to navigating the challenges of 66+ robot assets, this talk highlights how Digital Domain pushed Mari’s capabilities and set a high bar for texture artistry. Viewers will get a closer look at several of the film’s standout characters, including The Marshall, Mister Peanut, Herman, and the scavenger robots, along with insights into how real-world references and custom workflows came together behind the scenes.
