Die Reise
Meaning 'The Journey'.
The Journey is what I've enjoyed and learned from while making this one. I never planned on making a full cgi shot. It was supposed to be a live action vfx shot. Shot the footage. Tracked it. Did the whole animation (Pretty sure the cloth sim is screwed). Finally was past compositing as well. But at the very last moment I realized that the focal length is off. And by quite a lot. As in, you could tell that the cloth was not lying in the same space as the footage. Even if the color matched perfectly.
So, I took a deep breath, and thought of the craziest of ideas. To CGI it all. And it scared me. I had never done that before. I don't know. I was always so scared of it. I mean, to make it all look real. That's tricky. But I figured, if I ran away now, I'll always keep running way.
Then the real fun began. I had the footage, and all I had to do was replicate the entire scene in 3d. And in times like these, the hardest things is to get started. I got started. I stumbled so many times along the way. I realized how tricky it is, copying small details.
After a lot of trial and error, the day finally arrived where I had successfully recreated the room. With all the main props and the exact same lighting.
Then another thought came to my tiny brain.
"What's the point of using the same lighting? Since we have everything in 3d, why not take this to a whole another level?"
And then this took another turn. And the outcome of that turn is what you're seeing right now.
