Sandmännchen - (Die Blümelein sie schlafen)
A children's lullaby song by Johannes Brahms
Flugelhorn Duet: The Lellefix, Flugelhorn I (left channel); David Miller, Flugelhorn II (right channel).

The Lellefix uploaded his solo flugelhorn version a couple of days and invited me to do a harmonized version to it. Here is his original:

And posted here is my harmonized version. I'm a little under the weather. I've had a serious respiratory infection for the past several days, just into my third day of medications, so I'm slowly getting back into playing, but nowhere like where it was! My legato tonguing isn't where it usually is, so I slurred most of this. Also, somewhere along the line, my recording picked up some digital artifacts, kind of a swishing sound that increases as the volume increases. I haven't been able to figure out what caused it. So please disregard this. If it's bothersome, turning the volume down seems to help. Thanks! And thanks for listening!

My technical notes:

Recorded April 27, 2014. I'm playing my Olds Clark Terry model flugelhorn with a Curry 3 FL.-B mouthpiece, recorded into a Royer R-122 ribbon mic (addressed slightly off-axis and down) into PreSonus pre (with Telefunken 12AX7), into the Tascam DP-008. No compression was used. Lellefix's flugel has a more rounded and darker tone quality than my Olds flug, which can be a bit bright 'buckety'. I used a little post-production EQ'ing to help this. In hindsight I think I should have used my Neumann TLM-103 mic. It might work better with flugelhorns. I'll need to try some experimenting with this!
