While the digital PCR (dPCR) workflow is similar across platforms, the details used by each vary, sometimes significantly, resulting in different user experience and reliability of results. Specifically, the final read and analyze step of the dPCR workflow is handed different on available platforms. Bio-Rad’s Droplet Digital™ PCR (ddPCR™) technology reads each droplet individually, supports up to 6-color multiplexing analysis, and provides user-friendly software to automate thresholding/gating to enable quick and confident analysis while also providing tools to assist in GMP compliance. Conversely, other platforms using the alternate approach of imaging to read and analyze dPCR results. These approaches allow fluorescence cross-talk, offer limited multiplexing support, use cumbersome software that required manual intervention and optimization, which can introduce user bias and reduce confidence in results.

The latest version (QX Manager Software Premium Edition, v2.1) offers features that include audit trails and tools to assist with compliance for U.S. FDA 21 CFR Part 11, QX600™ Droplet Reader connectivity and 6-channel data analysis tools, and the Assay Protocol feature that supports automated data analysis and reporting. These are features that are important for many applications, including cell and gene therapy development and QC.
