Did OG FF7 have a "Bad Ending"? Some people think it did. The real Final Fantasy 7 (1997) by Squaresoft had an finale that was bittersweet, didn't overstay its welcome, and raised some questions. But I think all the clues are there to let you know that humanity survived, but learned to live in a way that was more in touch with nature. Because without Sephiroth and Jenova, Shinra was still killing the planet with mako reactors. If Red XIII survived the clash between Meteor, Holy and The Lifestream, then Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Cait Sith, Cid Highwind, Yuffie and Vincent could have survived too. We can assume they lived out the rest of their days in peace. You may find the post-FF7 compilation stuff like Crisis Core, Advent Children and FF7 "Remake" entertaining, but they were never part of the original plan and should be regarded as fan-fiction designed to milk fans who just want more "FF7-like things". Sakaguchi was against sequels, and every Final Fantasy he oversaw was meant to be a self-contained thing. Everything you need to know about the story and each character was contained in the one game. It's no accident that the second he left, they made FFX-2.
