Diana Ross at the Lokerse Feesten (festivities), Belgium, 31 July 2026
Miss Ross’ second of three shows in Europe & UK, in Lokeren, Belgium at a festival called ‘Lokerse Feesten’, which originated in 1975. This show was part of the ‘Diana in Motion’ tour. Main footage was filmed by Niels Zuijdweg. Close-up fragments were filmed from front row by Bart Aalbersberg and youtube members ASp Concerts, ReineMaan and Ellysvp. Drone footage of the main stage and audience close-ups were filmed by Lokerse Feesten.

Late last March, I checked Miss Ross’ website to see if any more dates had been added in Europe and the UK, besides the Brighton Pride Festival. Much to my surprise, a show had been added in Lokeren, Belgium. Less than an hour driving. Lokerse Feesten (Festivities) has been around since 1975 and is a well-known annual music festival in Belgium.
I texted my friend Peter who lives nearby in Ghent. He was able to come along, making this trip extra special. We were excited seeing Miss Ross so nearby, at a festival neither of us had been to before.
On entering the grounds to the Main Stage around 8.30 PM, we noticed that this stage was perfectly visible from any place where one was standing. There was no real need to get closer.
We enjoyed a wonderful performance of Craig David, had some time to wander the grounds until 10.30 PM. You felt the excitement rising among the crowd. And then the highlight of the evening began: Miss Diana Ross!
This was the 12th time for me to see Miss Ross in concert. But the first time to see her perform outdoors. She can seem timeless, and during her performances you may see moments of her Supremes days, or legendary moments from the 1980’s shows and tv specials shining through. This evening in Lokeren, there were moments where I felt reminded of her Central Park shows. It felt surreal, but it was right there. The energy from the audience added to this atmosphere: at times, they responded to her presence with the pure, wild enthusiasm she received during the early 1980’s. And Miss Ross felt it. ‘You’re an amazing audience! I love it here!’ She meant it.
It was a most memorable evening.
Near the end of ‘I Will Survive’, Peter and I needed to head back to the station to catch the last train back to Ghent. I felt most content with what we had been part of. At the station, waiting for our train, I filmed the view of Lokeren under a full moon in its waning phase, seeing the blue beams of light from the main stage moving through the sky in the distance. Wondering how Miss Ross was concluding her show. I added the concluding scenes here. Her new song ‘BU’ (Be You), and her closing with ‘Thank You’.
Since the last time I saw Miss Ross perform in London last year in July and now in Lokeren, there has been a significant change in experience for me. A month after the London show, my mother suffered a severe stroke. Everything changed from that point on, and I became my mom’s primary caregiver. A second stroke in December marked the beginning of the end. Her passing seemed inevitable.
Before, I would always come home, give her a call and she would ask how my trip went. It felt strange, coming home after Lokeren and Ghent, and not being able to tell my mom how it was. It was the first time since her passing, that I had went out to do something fun for myself again. But I felt so happy being in Lokeren with Peter and being able to really enjoy things again. I thank you, Miss Ross, for bringing so much joy to your fans. And I want to dedicate this video to my mama Mia, for having been there for me always. A Force of Nature, just like Miss Ross.
