Filmed during the first 15 minutes of Gladys Knight's concert at Royal Albert Hall in London on June 27th. For me, this was the first time to see Miss Knight perform live. Looking back, I realise how many of her songs are interwined with my life. From ‘Midnight Train’ to her sensitive rendition of ‘The Way We Were’. Her later songs 'License to Kill' and the title song for 'Home Alone' were on my favourite playlists during the 1990's and 2000's.
I was in awe of her stage presence at 80 years old. She was escorted to the stage, apparently not walking completely comfortably. But once on stage, she had the hall in her hands right from the start. Voice, presence, a diva with a lifetime of experience. So much joy radiated from her, and during the first songs she seemed a bit timid to receiving such applause so soon. Her hand covering her mouth a few times while laughing. So sincere and pure in her performance.
I filmed a few snippets at the beginning. And 'Baby Don't Change Your Mind' in full. After that, I put my phone away and decided I would focus fully on the experience of Miss Gladys Knight's show. I'm still reminiscing, watching and listening to many of her songs and past concerts. Grateful for this evening. Thank you, Miss Gladys Knight.
On a practical note: I was seated in Block G, row 2, seat 8. The two seats on my left as well as on my right remained empty, providing me with a 'lounge experience'. British singer Micca Miller started the evening at 7.30 pm as a supporting act, chosen by Miss Knight herself to accompany her on her European tour. A lovely and gifted singer.
