Rescue at the Old Bailey Courthouse
"I don't believe it. What are you?"
"A believer."
―The terrorist leader and Wonder Woman

In London, a small group of reactionary terrorists took over the Old Bailey Courthouse, taking several hostages including a school field trip. Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) stormed the building and used the Lasso of Hestia to compel one of the terrorists to tell her their plans. He revealed that their leader had a bomb powerful enough to destroy several city blocks while the world media will watch. Diana (Gal Gadot) took out the terrorists and neutralizes the bomb. The terrorist leader then tried to kill the hostages with a gun, but Diana (Wonder Woman) protected the hostages by deflecting bullets with her bracelets.

Justice League was based at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, southeast England, famously home of the Harry Potter films and of the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour. There’s extensive use of studio sets and CGI, particularly for ‘Gotham City’ though aerial shots of the city are back to Chicago, which was used as far back as Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins. The S.T.A.R. Lab, where Silas Stone (Joe Morton) works, is added digitally – east of Millennium Park on land seemingly reclaimed from Lake Michigan.

The chaos unleashed by the Man of Steel’s absence impels Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) to fill the void by reaching out to apparent metahumans with good intentions.

In London, a couple of white vans cross the Thames via Tower Bridge (all cinematic journeys in London involve this Bridge, which finally got a featured role in Spider-Man: Far From Home). The vehicles then pass by St Paul’s Cathedral, but is perfectly justified by their destination, which is the Central Criminal Court, The Old Bailey, London EC4. The Statue of Justice atop the building, sword in one hand, scales in the other, has always been visual shorthand for an important trial.

For such a phenomenally high-security establishment, it’s astonishing to learn that the attack by a “small group of reactionary terrorists” really was staged in the building’s lobby. Fortunately, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) is on hand, in her guise as Wonder Woman, waiting in the Scales of Justice, to see off the bad guys and save bystanders.

Wonder Woman was also changed for the better by her experience with the Justice League. Batman had forced her to confront the century she had chosen to not engage in her role as protector and beacon of hope to the world. Wonder Woman accepted the leadership of the League and the responsibility that comes with it when she led them into the final battle with Steppenwolf. After foiling a robbery at the British Museum at the end of the movie, Wonder Woman met with the public for the first time, accepting her role as an ambassador for both the League and the Amazon way of life. It was time at last for the world to get to know Wonder Woman.

Warner Bros. began to develop a live-action Justice League film in 2007. The studio tapped Michele and Kieran Mulroney to pen a screenplay which became known as Justice League: Mortal.

When the evil and powerful Steppenwolf returns to Earth with his demons after the death of Superman, he retrieves the Mother Box from The Paradise Island. Queen Hippolyta warns her daughter Diana Prince about the menace to the planet and the Wonder Woman meets Batman to discuss how defend Earth. Meanwhile Steppenwolf retrieves the second Mother Box from Atlantis and Batman and Wonder Woman team up with The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg, with the support of Alfred, to protect the last Mother Box entrusted to humans. But Batman concludes that they do not have enough power to save the world and proposes to use the power of the Box to revive Superman despite the risks.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his new-found ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.
