K's search for the child led him to the Wallace Corporation's Earth Headquarters, where he requested information on the dead female replicant's serial number, providing a sample of DNA from a lock of hair found inside the ossuary. Inside Wallace's archives, K was informed by an employee that the serial number belonged to a pre-prohibition, standard issue, "unremarkable" replicant made by the Tyrell Corporation.

Moments later, Luv introduced herself to K before leading him to memory data-bank containing decades-old memories. A small audio memory fragment of former LAPD Officer Rick Deckard's Voight-Kampff testing of the unknown female replicant was played.

The Blackout was an unprecedented electricity blackout that affected Los Angeles for ten days in May 2022.
Replicants Iggy Cygnus and Trixie, with the vital assistance of Ren Dus, a replicant-sympathizing Tyrell Corporation employee, came up with a plan to destroy the servers hosting the Tyrell Corporation's database of registered replicants. The plan consisted of the detonation of a nuclear warhead in the stratosphere over Los Angeles in order to overload the city's electrical grid with a powerful EMP blast and erase any trace of electronic data. Ren and Iggy would then, at the same time, explode a hijacked fuel truck inside the server farm, thus ensuring no replicant information could ever be retrieved.
The plan was a success and all replicant production was banned shortly thereafter, and was the reason for the fall of the Tyrell Corporation. The end of such a large megacorporation left the world in a state of crisis, with stock markets crashing and prevalent food shortages. The Wallace Corporation went to acquire the bankrupted company and restart on the production of a new model of replicant a decade later.
In this sci fi movie the story opens in 2049, thirty years after the events of the first film. An on-screen text states that the Tyrell Corporation has collapsed decades before, in the wake of revolts involving their Nexus-6 through -8 Replicants, forcing the company into bankruptcy. World's ecosystems collapsed in the mid 2020s. With his invention of synthetic farming, a wealthy businessman named Niander Wallace (Jared Leto) ended food shortages and acquired Tyrell's remaining assets to form his own corporation. The Wallace Company has reinvigorated the Replicant industry by mass producing the Nexus-9 Replicants, a new generation of artificial humans with modified behavior to make them more obedient than the older models. These Replicants have implanted memories and open-ended lifespans, and are still used for slave labor on the off-world colonies (the Moon, Mars, and the moons of Jupiter, Saturn, etc.), but some are also used as Blade Runner units, hunting down and "retiring" the few remaining older model Replicants that are still at large. If you can’t tell from the trailers, Blade Runner 2049 is visually stunning. It has a cyberpunk visual style more inspired by the modern era than by the 80s look of Ridley Scott’s vision.
