This Park Travel Short is about Devils Tower National Monument. Located in northeast Wyoming, this is America's first National Monument. It is known by several other names. The most popular is "Bear Lodge". This place has much cultural significance to the indigenous people of our country. We visited in July of 2018 and found it to be a very special place. From the park's website: Devils Tower rises 1,267 feet (386 m) above the Belle Fourche River. A sacred place to over 20 Native American tribes, the Tower is also known as Bear Lodge. Devils Tower was designated as America's first national monument in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt.
