This eclectic choral piece in Raag Durga is a celebration of the goddess who is worshipped as the Mother of the Universe. She is the source of strength, knowledge, and creative energy, the ‘giver of life’ who destroys evil forces. The piece depicts Durga, Bhavani, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kali, Gauri, all different manifestations of the goddess who is the embodiment of Shakthi, the female power. It presents the popular Durga Devi mantra chant tuned by Vidushi Arati Ankalikar Tikekar, which is followed by a popular Devi bandish in Drut Teentaal, Mata Bhavani Kali, composed by Dr. Prabha Atre. The concept and arrangement with choral layers, harmonies, and Dhrupad style interludes was designed by Sudha Subbaraman (Lead vocals), accompanied by Manasi Joshi-Singh (Lead vocals/Chorus), Srinivasa Prasanna (Veena), Shivam Pathak (Saxophone, Tabla, Chorus), and Visham Pathak (Backing vocals/Chorus).
The song starts with soft nom-thom refrains in chorus and flows into the Durga Devi Mantra sung solo. The rest of the piece is sung as a choir with instrumental support provided by Veena and Saxophone, and some fast jhala-style nom-thom alaaps all in Raag Durga. Rhythm loops and Dhala Tabla provide rhythm and percussion support.
