Smartphone cameras and unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) are being used to collect video and images used in 3D modeling at a lower cost than more traditional methods. While UAS vehicles require people to be trained to operate them on sites, smartphones can be used by almost anyone, helping collect information in remote locations.
The Texas Department of Transportation and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute reviewed currently used technologies to determine their strengths and weaknesses in the field. This research is designed to determine which type of inspection should be used on various projects.
