In a rematch of a lopsided 32-point victory by Detroit Henry Ford in week 8, Detroit Denby was seeking redemption in the first round of the state playoffs. The winner would earn a second-round game against the newly crowned PSL champions, Detroit Martin Luther King. Denby (6-3) was led by all-state WR Robert Strickland (Michigan State University) sought to finish their season off strong against Detroit Henry Ford (6-2). Henry Ford was led by fullback Jeff Atkins and tailback John Radney, and the ground game was too much for Denby. Ford won, 34-12.
