Though we rarely get power cuts here, there have been occasions where it would be handy to be able to supply my router and a tablet.
Ideally i would have liked to power the router directly from the 12v battery, but the voltage is i think about 15 - 18v.
Steve gave me a UPS (300w) so i thought i may as well make use of it, but no point in putting extra starin on the inverter to convert to 240v only to step back down to 5v, so i decided to add a direct 12v output which then goes to a panel on the desk with a 5v regulator and USb connector (i actually used a 7806 with a series diode to drop the voltage).
I always test with a lower current fuse, it seems i selected one that was right on the brink of overload (300mA) with amusing results, so i thought i would share
