One of the biggest mistakes I see with windows is cutting the visual height of a room without even realizing it. In this Las Vegas home renovation project of my dear friends, Daniel and Szolt, the black window frames created a strong horizontal line that made the kitchen and dining area feel shorter than it actually was.
Instead of ordering custom treatments, we grabbed a simple table runner from Crate and Barrel, pleated it, and mounted it above the window to draw the eye upward. For under $50, the windows suddenly feel taller, more finished, and much more custom.
This is what good design does. It guides the eye and changes how a room feels, not just how it looks.
