The Desert Road (a section of State Highway 1) spans 50 km between Waiouru and Tūrangi in New Zealand’s central North Island. It traverses the desolate Rangipo Desert and reaches a peak elevation of 1,074 meters, offering striking views of the Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro volcanoes.
