DISCIPLINED MINDS author Jeff Schmidt, PhD, physics, discusses his book in a presentation organized by Denis Rancourt, PhD, physics, U of Ottawa.
After 19 years with Physics Today, associate editor Jeff Schmidt, was fired after his book, DISCIPLINED MINDS, was published (2000). Physics Today recognized very quickly that the book by their editor was an expose the process that produces physicists and other salaried professionals - people who can be trusted with the collective cognitive imperative (as per Julian Jaynes).
Disciplined Minds usefully explains the chasm between undisciplined minds (the so-called 'Deplorables', I say) and the compliant, trusted, neutered, cultural commisar PhDs. Of course it's not just the PhDs who've become disciplined via academic processing. Jeff Schmidt's book is crucial for understanding the processing of so many otherwise smart people.
