In honour of the #Tonys tonight, De'Lon Grant, and the real life niece-uncle team of Emily Walton & Jim Walton sat down with Reel School to discuss something that is near and dear to their heart - the longest running Canadian musical on Broadway - #ComeFromAway. Come From Away now has a release on #AppleTVPlus to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11, and to bring this amazing production to over 100 countries worldwide. This musical is a beautiful story of bringing people together in one of the darkest times in recent memory.
We talked about everything from visiting Newfoundland, their memories of the real 9/11 and this amazing show (which just so happens to be a real life family affair). This is Part 2 of my interviews with the cast, be sure to catch Part 1 HERE: youtu.be/F_l0X72bMgc
“Come From Away" is the filmed version of the award-winning Broadway musical which tells the story of 7,000 people stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland after all flights into the US are grounded on September 11, 2001. As the people of Newfoundland graciously welcome the “come from aways” into their community in the aftermath, the passengers and locals alike process what’s happened while finding love, laughter and new hope in the unlikely and lasting bonds that they forge.
The live performance of “Come From Away" was filmed at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City, where the Broadway production is staged, in front of an audience that included 9/11 survivors and frontline workers.
PREMIERE DATE: Friday, September 10, 2021 on Apple TV+
