The Elizabeth line is the most significant addition to London’s transport network in a generation, but the impact of the railway extends beyond London and the South East. People in every region of the UK have helped to deliver the Elizabeth line.
The impact of the Crossrail project on the UK economy and employment has shown that businesses from around the UK have benefitted from work connected to the delivery of the Elizabeth line. This reach includes companies from Glasgow, Cardiff, Dromore in Northern Ireland, and Bolton in the northwest of England.
- 96 per cent of contracts awarded went to companies within the UK
- 62 per cent of suppliers were based outside of London
- 62 per cent of Tier 1 suppliers and 72 per cent of Tier 2 suppliers have been SMEs
During construction, the Crossrail project supported tens of thousands of jobs all around the UK. Hundreds more will be employed by TfL, MTR Elizabeth line, and the wider supply chain in the operation and maintenance of the new railway.
