Scammers post fake rental ads on Craigslist and other sites hoping to steal your money. I annoyed this scammer thoroughly, who ended up being from Lagos, Nigeria. Owned.

About this scam: The scammer posts an apartment or house for rent, usually way below a normal price. The posts themselves usually look suspicious, with poorly written content/descriptions and poor resolution images or none at all. The scammer responds to emails stating that they are "out of town" but can send you the keys and "documents" for the apartment to your shipping address, once they have received a deposit or down payment. They'll say it must be sent through wire transfer (usually Western Union or Moneygram). Once the money is sent, boom it's gone. Do not ever wire money to someone that you don't know, no matter how good the deal sounds.
