Marvel Studios recently announced Avengers: Doomsday at San Diego Comic-Con, revealing Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom. Originally titled "The Kang Dynasty," this next *Avengers* movie underwent significant changes following the firing of Kang actor Jonathan Majors, giving us a new direction and a better understanding of the film’s storyline.
Hi Superfans, I’m Swapnil, and in this video, I’ll discuss three main points: how the MCU is transitioning from Kang to Doom, the initial plot of *Avengers: The Kang Dynasty*, and the potential plot of *Avengers: Doomsday*.
First, let’s recap how we got here. We first met Kang as "He Who Remains" at the end of *Loki* Season 1, who revealed that after a Multiversal War, he was the last surviving Kang, creating the Sacred Timeline to rule indefinitely. However, Sylvie killed him, setting off events that led to the return of other Kangs.
In *Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania*, we saw one Kang variant trapped in the Quantum Realm by the Council of Kangs, considered a threat to their plans. In *Loki* Season 2, it was revealed that this was all part of He Who Remains’ plan, as the Time Loom controlling the multiverse began to fail, leading to the creation of a new multiverse by Loki.
With this context, it’s clear that there were still many Kang-related stories to explore. However, the MCU has decided to move on from Kang. It’s implied that the TVA may have dealt with his variants before a war could start, leaving Kang’s story unresolved in *Ant-Man 3*.
Initial rumors suggested that *The Kang Dynasty* would involve characters like Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine playing major roles. However, after *The Marvels* ending, the story shifted, involving the Avengers traveling through the multiverse to confront a new threat linked to Monica Rambeau and an Incursion event.
As we prepare for *Avengers: Doomsday* in 2026, followed by *Avengers: Secret Wars* in 2027, it's evident that the storyline is being significantly reworked, with the Russo brothers directing both films. While Kang may no longer be the focus, Doctor Doom is set to play a significant role, making for an exciting future in the MCU.
