In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Nick Fury mentions having a wife, but it's uncertain if he was telling the truth. However, Secret Invasion episode 2 confirms that Fury is indeed married, and his wife is a Skrull he met after Captain Marvel. This revelation changes previous MCU moments, as Fury kept his wife's identity a secret from other characters. It also explains Fury's protective nature towards the Skrulls and his involvement in hiding Hawkeye's family. In the first episode of "Secret Invasion," titled "Resurrection," the Skrull rebellion's plans were exposed to Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and Talos. Gravik aimed to detonate a bomb in a Russian plaza and blame the group Americans Against Russia, sparking global destabilization. The Skrulls, immune to radiation, planned to take over Earth if a nuclear war broke out. The premiere concluded with Gravik setting off a bomb in Moscow's Vossoyedineniye Square, potentially fulfilling a prediction made in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." The brutal scene depicted civilian panic and death, further highlighting the severity of the situation. Gravik's actions intensified his role as a villain, culminating in the murder of Maria Hill.
The Frost Beast from Thor: The Dark World was killed on Earth and its DNA was stolen by a Skrull agent. The Skrulls plan to use the harvested artifacts, including the Frost Beast's DNA, to create their version of the Super Skrull, mimicking the powers of the Fantastic Four. The Frost Beast's DNA replaces the powers of the Invisible Woman, while other artifacts replace the powers of Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, and the Human Torch.
