$Frack hearing: Glenn Wahl Glenn Wahl, Jamestown Community College geology instructor and retired high school science teacher outlines for Chautauqua County legislators some of the downsides of high volume horizontal hydraulic fracking. He first explains the difference between conventional fracking for methane (vertical drilling) and the new high-tech use of long lateral lines in the Utica shale. Wahl calls attention to a study by the Society of Petroleum Engineers that says that 35% of all existing gas wells are leaking; and a University of Texas (Arlington) study found high levels of arsenic and other toxic heavy metals in water wells within 3km of HVHF wells in the Barnett shale.
