This audio clip is from Y94 Playhouse Fargo, ND radio station over 13 years ago. Donna called into the radio station asking for help getting deer crossing signs moved to lower traffic areas.
This scooter rider was hit by a deer while riding his GSPACE MARS GTR escooter. He shares the following: Always wear your safety gear — you never know what can happen. Take me, for instance: Near the end of my ride in-town, going the speed limit, and I hit a deer (see video). If you watch the lower right hand corner after the hit, you’ll see the deer rolling off in the grass. It was gone before I got back onto my feet (passersby saw the whole thing). Luckily the cars behind me were giving me safe following distance and stopped well before they would’ve hit me lying in the road.
I was wearing all of my gear, to include a full-head helmet, and the gear did its job. I was decently banged up in a few places, but walked away without any permanent or long-term damage. Amazingly, my GSPACE MARS GTR escooter barely shows any sign of the crash (it slid on its left side on my after-market rearview mirror [replaced] and the kick stand). The thing is built like a tank.
Be careful out there, have fun, and always gear up!
