Usha is the beautiful daughter of the Asura king Bana. She has a dream about a handsome youth. Waking up, she tells her companion Chitralekha that she has fallen in love with the man in her dream. Chitralekha paints portraits of all the princes in the land, one of whom Usha recognises as the one from her dream. Chitralekha informs Usha that the man in question is Aniruddha, the grandson of Krishna. Using her magical powers Chitralekha promises to bring Aniruddha to Usha.
