Co-sponsored by the Evening Weekend Student Government, EWMBAA, this virtual talk, entitled Using the Power of Disability for Change, will be moderated and led by Zeenia Irani, EWMBA 23, Director of FINCA and VP of Social Impact. The panel will feature Judy Heumann, MPH 75, Civil Rights Activist; Vint Cerf, “Father of the Internet”/Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google; and Diego Mariscal, CEO of 2Gether-International.
After a hard year of looking at various aspects of our lives through the lens of race, health, and inequity, 2021 has given us a chance to address issues of the past. Here at Haas, we have historically worked together as a global community to ensure diversity and inclusion at every step. Our culture of going Beyond Yourself, has continually provided us with hope, in times of need. And so in that spirit, I invite you to be a part of this conversation on where diversity goes next.
Judy Huemann helped set up the first Center for Independent Living in Berkeley and serves as a living icon for millions of disabled Americans. While working in key roles in both the Clinton and Obama administrations, Judy was a key figure in the passage of the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act.
As one of the “Fathers of the Internet”, 2005 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Vint Cerf has changed the way we communicate and experience the world. As a result of this work, disabled entrepreneurs like Diego Mariscal, CEO of 2Gether International, have been able to succeed and thrive in business. Diego’s not-for-profit organization, supports founders with disabilities, with the mission of reinventing the state of disability and the future of business.
There will also be an opportunity for audience Q&A, so please come with any questions you may have.
