As a member of the senior leadership team at NIKE, Matthew will give us a wonderful opportunity to hear about these purpose-driven initiatives, his role in supporting them, and what lies ahead for Nike in these efforts.
Matthew started his career in investment banking after graduating from Berkeley, and went on to oversee the finances of a number of divisions within NIKE, ultimately being named CFO of the NIKE Brand in 2020. In conversation with MBA students, Matthew will also talk about his career journey in finance and the effect the pandemic has had on his leadership style.

1. Awareness – know what subcultures exist within the organization and anticipate the possibility that they conflict in dysfunctional ways.
2. Agility – be willing to try out different cultural priorities. Before deciding that the counterculture is necessarily problematic you should look at what it is solving for.
3. Alignment – prioritize one cultural norm that applies to all units and unifies the organization rather than trying to be perfectly aligned on everything.
