It marks the third and final installment in the main Dead Space series. The narrative follows protagonist Isaac Clarke as he teams up with allies, including a new character named John Carver, to investigate the icy planet Tau Volantis. Their mission: uncover the origins of the Necromorph outbreak—a grotesque alien threat—while fending off both the creatures and the fanatical human cult known as the Unitologists.

Development began in 2011 following the success of Dead Space 2.
