In Visions of Mana, the world of Qi’Diel thrives on the power of Mana — a sacred force that nourishes all life. Every few years, this power begins to fade, and to restore it, one person from each elemental village is chosen as an Alm. Their destiny is to travel to the Mana Tree and offer up their life so the flow of Mana can continue. Alongside every Alm is a Soul Guard — a sworn protector meant to accompany them to the end.

The story begins after a tragedy long remembered. In the Earth village, the previous Alm, Lyza, and her guard, Eoren, tried to escape the pilgrimage. Their rebellion ended in disaster — Lyza was turned to stone, and Eoren disappeared. The legend of their failure becomes the shadow that hangs over every future Alm.

Years later, in the Fire village of Tianeea, a young woman named Hinna is chosen by the Fire Faerie to be the next Alm. It’s supposed to be an honor, but everyone knows it’s also a death sentence. Her childhood friend, Val, becomes her Soul Guard. He vows to protect her on her pilgrimage, though deep down he fears what that promise truly means. Their journey begins quietly, but the moment they step outside their village, the reality of their duty hits them.

Soon they meet Careena, the Alm of Wind — confident, proud, and distrustful of outsiders. She reluctantly joins them, seeing the pilgrimage as a necessary duty, even if it means her own end. Together, they climb Mt. Gala to confront the guardian known as the Mantis Ant — a massive elemental beast representing the imbalance in the flow of Mana. Their victory earns them the Wind Spirit’s blessing and binds them closer as allies.

From there, the group travels north through frozen valleys and moonlit plains, eventually encountering Morley, the Alm of the Moon. He’s quiet and withdrawn, burdened by memories of people he couldn’t save. Morley’s presence brings a new tone to the group — one of melancholy and reflection. As they move through Rime Falls and down to the coast, they learn that every Alm carries not only the weight of their duty, but also the fear of being forgotten once their sacrifice is complete.

Their ship finally reaches the continent of Manadore, home to Illystana. Unlike the humble villages they’ve known, Illystana is a grand city ruled by the Queen of Water, filled with canals, temples, and politics. Here, the pilgrimage’s spiritual path becomes entangled with human ambition. The Queen welcomes them as honored guests, but it’s clear that even royalty fears the loss of Mana. Beneath the city’s beauty lies tension — whispers that the cycle of sacrifice might be more tradition than necessity.

To continue the pilgrimage, the group explores the Luka Ruins, ancient tunnels hidden beneath the capital. The ruins are part temple, part machine — glowing with forgotten technology. Deep inside, they meet Palamena, the Alm of Water, who joins their cause after helping them defeat the Fullmetal Hugger, a massive armored crab-like guardian. The battle proves that the ancient forces guarding the flow of Mana are not just natural beings — they’re constructs of something far older and stranger.

As they emerge from the ruins, the group begins to see cracks in the story they’ve been told all their lives. The pilgrimage, once seen as a divine ritual, starts to look like a system designed to keep the world — and its people — obedient. Hinna feels that doubt more strongly than anyone.

By the time the third chapter begins, the group settles temporarily in Illystana. The city becomes a place of rest, but also reflection. The once-clear purpose of their journey grows murky. Hinna’s cheerful resolve fades, replaced by quiet fear. She doesn’t want to die. She doesn’t want her life to end at the Mana Tree. Val sees her struggling, but he doesn’t know how to comfort her — he’s bound by his duty to protect her, even if that means protecting her all the way to her death.

Hinna wants to believe him. For the first time, she sees a possible future beyond death. But Val doesn’t trust Eoren. To him, this man is dangerous — a ghost from a failed past, tempting Hinna to abandon her destiny. The group’s unity begins to fracture as doubt spreads among them.

Hinna wanders the palace alone, her thoughts spiraling. Under the moonlight, she stares into the waters of the Illystana canals and wonders if her life truly belongs to the gods — or if it ever did. When Eoren approaches her again, he invites her to the Reignus Shrine, claiming it holds the key to freeing all Alms from their fate. Torn between fear and hope, Hinna follows, and the others chase after her, desperate to understand what’s really happening.

The chapter ends not with a battle, but with a choice left hanging in the air. Hinna stands between two paths — one leading to duty and sacrifice, the other to rebellion and uncertainty. The pilgrimage that once seemed sacred now feels like a cage. And as Eoren’s voice echoes — “You don’t have to die for this world”
